Easy Guava and Orange Jam

If you love the sweet, floral flavour of guava and the zesty brightness of citrus, this Guava and Orange Jam is your new go-to. Made with tinned guavas and fresh orange juice, it's a quick and delicious small-batch jam that comes together without fuss — no fancy ingredients or pectin required (unless you want a firmer set).
This jam is perfect on toast, stirred into yoghurt, dolloped on pancakes, or even layered in cakes. The syrup from the guavas adds extra richness and depth, while the orange brings balance and a bit of tang.

Ingredients

  • 1 tin ±410 g guavas in syrup
  • Zest and juice of 1 orange
  • ½ cup sugar adjust to taste
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice for pectin + balance
  • Optional: ½ tsp fresh grated ginger or cinnamon

Instructions

  • Drain the guavas, reserving half the syrup. Chop fruit and add to a saucepan.
  • Add orange juice + zest, sugar, lemon juice, and half the reserved syrup.
  • Stir over medium heat until the sugar dissolves. Bring to a gentle boil.
  • Reduce heat and simmer for ±25–30 minutes, stirring often, until thickened.
  • For a smoother texture, mash lightly as it cooks.
  • Add pectin in the last 5 minutes if using, and simmer until set.
  • Spoon into sterilised jars, let cool, and refrigerate.

Notes

Lasts up to 3 weeks in the fridge. For long-term storage, use proper canning methods.
