The Great Marula Menu: A Culinary Journey
The Great Marula Menu cookbook is more than just a collection of recipes—it’s a celebration of creativity, collaboration, and the unique flavor of Amarula. The book, launched on August 28, 2024, after nearly two years of meticulous recipe development, showcases the versatility of Amarula beyond the dessert table. Crafting savory dishes with this creamy liqueur was a challenging yet rewarding process, resulting in a final product that J’Something, The Lazy Makoti, and the Amarula team are proud to present to the world.
Inspired by the creamy richness of Amarula, the idea for this cookbook was born from user-generated content that started flooding in over the years. The team at Amarula recognized the potential to combine two beloved things—food and Amarula—into a unique culinary experience. While the submissions were more serving suggestions, many standout dishes were created through good old-fashioned trial and error.



The book launch on August 28th was a memorable evening held at Artistry. Upon arrival, guests were treated to Ethiopian coffee on ice and prawn cocktail, setting the tone for an evening filled with indulgence. The starters featured Mussels in an aromatic Amarula broth, showcasing the innovative ways Amarula can enhance savory dishes. Throughout the evening, guests could enjoy Amarula gin or a variety of Amarula cream cocktails while a DJ and drummer provided a lively musical backdrop.
The main course was a feast for the senses, with dishes like creamy coconut fish, creamy Ethiopian mushroom risotto, beef fillet with Amarula sauce, and Amarula chicken wings. Dessert was equally impressive, featuring Amarula milktart, berry cheesecake ice cream, and pudim flan with coffee Amarula. If these dishes make your mouth water, be sure to get your hands on a copy of The Great Marula Menu. My personal favorites from the evening were the beef fillet, mushroom risotto, berry cheesecake ice cream, and the pudim flan.
The tables were beautifully decorated and the venue offered plenty of photo opportunities. The staff was incredibly friendly, and the chefs did a magnificent job with the food. The atmosphere was vibrant and welcoming, making it a truly unforgettable evening.
As an overenthusiastic foodie, I submitted a flood of recipe ideas, hoping that one might be chosen. To my absolute delight, four of my recipes were selected for the cookbook. Being acknowledged with a special thanks in The Great Marula Menu for my contribution to the book—I’m now, in a low-key way, a published author! Throughout this journey, I’ve met incredible people, and it’s clear that Amarula has a unique way of bringing people together.
